Snowshoes

hiking in the winter

Winter offers some of the best hiking in the Teton Valley. Smaller crowds and limited access lets you experience the wonder that is Jackson Hole in the winter time.

Teton Backcountry Rentals can outfit the entire family or group for a day of fun on the trails with packages including snowshoes, trekking poles, gaiters, and more.

Snowshoe basics

Snowshoeing is an approachable way to get out and explore winter in Jackson. It’s simply hiking on top of snow covered ground! You do however, need the right equipment to ensure your outing is a positive experience rather than one of cold wet socks. Snowshoes keep you on top of the snow rather than falling through all the way to the ground, called post-holing.

Additionally, a pair of trekking poles will keep you on your feet and well balanced throughout the walk, especially if you are new to snowshoeing. Our poles are adjustable in height and feature powder baskets which is perfect for hiking on the snow. Lastly, gaiters when paired with some waterproof hiking/winter boots help keep the snow from falling into your boot.

The Package Deal

The snowshoe package deal is back at Teton Backcountry Rentals! Get a pair of adult snowshoes, gaiters, and trekking poles for $25/day, and save more when you rent for multiple days!

Day 1 & 2 = $25/day
Day 3+ = $16.75/day

We offer multiple sizes to accommodate all users. Snowshoes work by increasing your footprint area thus allowing you to “float” on top of the snow, though wearing snowshoes that are overly large can be unnecessarily heavy and cumbersome. It is recommended that the total weight of the user plus the gear is no more than 200lb for the 8″ x 25″ snowshoes, and 250lb for the 9″ x 30″ snowshoes.

Additional gear

Make the most out of your hike by bringing along a few add-ons. Don’t miss out on spotting a few elk, bighorn sheep, and bald eagles. Always keep a safe distance between you and any wildlife.
